CITA elects new board
(CNS Business): The Cayman Island’s Tourism Association is asking for nominations for the 2015-2016 CITA Board of Directors. The polls open on 22 April and the election will take place at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association. All nominations are due by 4:00pm on 18 March.  A total of 10 seats are up for grabs, out of the 14 seats on the CITA Board.
CITA Executive Director Tiffany Dixon-Ebanks said, “CITA looks forward to the receipt of nominations from without our membership to help us navigate and steer the future of tourism here in the Cayman Islands. In the end, we look forward to a team of Directors who will work tirelessly to champion the cause of this very valuable industry and efforts of the CITA.†She also adds, “With the fact that tourism contributes to so many other of the traditional sectors in the Cayman Island’s economy, it is hoped that we will see a full list of potential candidates poised to contribute.â€
The election at the Association’s AGM will be from 3:00 – 5:00pm, followed by a cocktail reception.
The following board members will be serving their second term in 2015-2016, as they received the highest votes in the last election: Theresa Broderick (Condos/Villas); Brian Krug (Transportation); Steven Hayes (Restaurants); Ken Hydes (Cruise).
As for the rules of being nominated, CITA states the designated representative of any CITA member business that is in good standing with the association, and has been a member for at least one year, is eligible to be nominated for a Board of Directors position for the relevant sector in which that business is categorized, with the support of five other member signatures.
The 14 Board Director positions represent various CITA sectors such as, Hotels, Condos/Villas, Watersports, Transportation/Airlines, Restaurants/Nightclubs, Cruise Related, Sister Islands and Land-Based Attractions & Allied, which represents numerous businesses in the community that provide services to the tourism industry in the Cayman Islands (e.g. retailers, developers, wholesalers) but do not fall within one of the other designated sectors.
In a release CITA stated, the group of individuals that makes up the CITA’s Board of Directors have always been strong leaders, both within their own businesses as well as within the community. They contribute their knowledge and expertise in tourism by guiding the CITA through issues affecting the Association, its members and the Cayman Islands. Directors set goals for the upcoming membership year ahead while working closely with various government bodies to tackle issues such as safety, air arrivals, tourism product development, cost of doing business and education in addition to working alongside Cayman Islands Department of Tourism and the government in general, on partnerships ensuring best practice as well as promoting CITA member businesses and the destination as a whole.
The association’s annual report will be presented at CITA’s Annual General Meeting by the CITA Executive Director, Tiffany Dixon-Ebanks, as well as reports from Board Members (including the Treasurer) and a speech by the President. The elections take place at the beginning of the AGM. During the presentations, the votes are tallied behind the scenes, and at the end of the meeting, the new board is announced.
All CITA Members are welcome to attend this event, and Active, Allied and Provisional members (or their authorized proxy) will be eligible to vote for the 2015/16’s Board of Directors.
