(CNS Business): The Student Chapter of the Caymanian Bar Association held their annual elections last month and elected Angelique Howell, Alicia Thompson and Farrah Miller to represent them for the next year. The Board of the Student Chapter consists of three student representatives, one Undergraduate/LLB, one at the PPC/LPC/BVC level and one articled clerk.

The Undergraduate/LLB Representative this year is Alicia Thompson, who is currently a third year student at the Truman Bodden Law School, where she is an active member of the Student Society and is currently the third year representative. Upon the completion of her legal education, she wishes to pursue a career in Family Law. She is particularly interested in the protection of children from domestic violence as well as individuals who fall within the definition of harmful.

Thompson is also a member of Circle K International as well as a Sunday School Teacher at the Light of the World Christian Fellowship. As an advocate for youth empowerment, she is currently working with the George Town Primary School on a platform and an award scheme to be presented to a well-rounded child whose academics are not necessarily corresponding with his or her effort.

PPC/LPC/BVC Representative Angelique Howell joined the RCIPS in January 1989. In 2005 she was promoted to the rank of inspector, in 2007 she was promoted to the rank of chief inspector and in 2014 she was promoted to the rank of superintendent. She is currently the Head of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service District Operations where she is in command of approximately 204 staff including police officers and civilians.

Howell began her undergraduate legal studies with the then Cayman Islands Law School in 2009 on a part time basis. In August of 2014 she graduated with a Bachelor of Laws Degree with Honours from the University of Liverpool where she is now pursuing her Professional Practice Certificate.

Farrah Miller is the Articled Clerk Representative on the board. Miller received a Bachelor of Laws with Honours in 2012 from the University of Liverpool. She went on to complete her Legal Practice Course at BPP University College in Manchester, England where she obtained a Commendation in 2013. During her time at BPP University College, Miller worked pro bono with BPP’s Legal Advice Clinic. She has held several leadership positions with the Cayman Islands’ Law School Student Society and has actively been a CBA Student Chapter Member since the commencement of her legal studies.

Currently, Miller is an Articled Clerk at Mourant Ozannes and is pursuing a Master’s degree from BPP in Law and Business.
