Young Caymanians join law firm as articled clerks

(CNS Business): Walkers has announced the appointment of three new Caymanian articled clerks. Renee Prendergast, Arleth Ebanks and Rebecca Peck, who are all former Walkers scholarship recipients, have completed their legal education and have now begun Walkers’ Articled Clerk Training Programme. Over the next 18 months they will undergo rigorous training with the firm and will rotate through all of its key practice areas, with a view to being admitted as qualified attorneys with Walkers in 2016.
Renee Prendergast was born and raised in the Cayman Islands. She was a recipient of the 2010 Walkers Legal Scholarship and has interned with Walkers during the summer on a number of occasions. She is a former student of John Gray and St Ignatius High Schools and completed her LLB and Legal Practice Course with Commendation at Cardiff University in the UK. Renee will be articled to partner Melissa Lim and her first training seat is in the Trusts Group.
Arleth Ebanks is a recipient of the 2012 Walkers Legal Scholarship and has lived in the Cayman Islands for most of her life, attending John Gray High School. Arleth holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and completed the Graduate Diploma in Law at Nottingham Law School. She recently passed the Legal Practice Course with Commendation at BPP University in Manchester, where she was also an active member of the BPP Legal Advice Clinic. She will begin her training in Walkers’ Global Investment Funds Group and is articled to partner David Collins for the duration of her legal training.
Rebecca Peck was also a 2012 Walkers Legal Scholarship recipient. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Politics from the University of Sheffield and did the Graduate Diploma in Law in 2013 at the University of Law in London, where she also completed the Legal Practice Course. Rebecca was raised in Grand Cayman and attended Cayman Prep and High School, before completing her schooling in the UK. She participated in the Global Young Leaders Conference in New York and Washington DC and has received the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. Rebecca’s first training position will be in the Finance & Corporate Group and she is articled to partner Colette Wilkins.

Walkers was the first firm in the Cayman Islands to develop a comprehensive Articled Clerk Training Programme and has been training Caymanians to work in the legal profession for the past 30 years. Since the formation of the firm’s Trainee Committee in 2002, Walkers has trained 28 Caymanian articled clerks who all went on to be admitted as attorneys. The firm’s current intake of articled clerks: Arikka Ebanks, Nan Erb, Patrick McConvey and Jamie McGee, are all expected to qualify as attorneys in 2015.
