Cayman Graduate Joins Maritime Authority
(CNS Business): The Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands (MACI), parent organisation of the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry, continues its support of home grown talent by welcoming Gary Owen Foster to their team. Gary, who was the recipient of a MACI scholarship in 2011, graduated from Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, Florida in May 2014 with a Bachelors degree of the Arts in Business Administration and a Minor of the Arts in Finance and has returned home to Cayman to join MACI in their Management Trainee Program.
During his time at college, Gary was a founding member of the Eckerd College Finance Club and excelled in all classes relating to financial markets and assets. Gary regularly interned with MACI from 2011 through 2013 in the Accounts and IT sections and now has quickly become a valued member of the team.
“The MACI scholarship provided me with financial support as well as valuable work experience whilst attending college. I am delighted to now be able to contribute to the success of MACI and help maintain their position at the forefront of the maritime industry.†commented Gary.
As a Management Trainee, Gary will be put on a rotation schedule across a wide range of disciplines within the MACI, including IT, operations, company policies and practices, research and in-house training. In his first month, Gary has already completed a challenging assignment on industry competitive analysis, which will be used to assist with future business development initiatives.

Gary’s appointment with MACI highlights the diversity of job opportunities available within the maritime sector, including business management, IT, accounting, human resources and business development. The maritime industry is truly global and offers opportunities for those involved to travel the world whilst still working within their chosen disciplines.
The Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands is responsible for pleasure yacht and commercial shipping vessel registration; provision of surveys and certification to Cayman-registered vessels globally and to ‘new builds’, irrespective of flag; provision of construction supervision of new builds; ensuring crew compliance on Cayman-registered vessels; implementing marine pollution prevention; maritime safety and security; and development of national maritime policy formation.
