CEC seeking summer interns
(CNS Business): Cayman’s special economic zone is seeking young entrepreneurs to participate in their “Summer in the City” internship programme. Cayman Enterprise City (CEC) is inviting young professionals to apply for several internships that are available through the programme to “gain interesting experience with international zone companies; some in technology, others in media or commodities”, said Sasha Carrig, CEC’s Client Services Executive.
When the programme launched in 2013, students competed for two spots through a video contest. Last summer twelve students spent part of their summer with CEC, three of whom secured full-time jobs there at the end of their internships
CEC official explained that during the programme, two interns will also work alongside the SEZ developers; one in marketing and the other in client services to learn how CEC markets the Cayman Islands to the world and relocates companies here respectively. They’ll also observe CEC’s business development team to see what strategies the team members use to attract clients from the fields of commodities, internet, science and technology, media and marketing and maritime services sector.
Carrig, who is in charge of running the internship programme, said, “It may be challenging, but they’ll meet zone clients and get a chance to network at zone internship events, and if they are keen to learn and work hard, then this will be an unparalleled experience for them.”
CEC’s Chief Development Officer and local entrepreneur, Cindy O’Hars, will serve as a mentor for the interns throughout the programme, offering tips and advice to students who wish to one day become an entrepreneur and start up a business of their own.
