Airport reveals designs for new look
(CNS Business): The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) has unveiled the drawings for the $55 million upgrade and expansion project at Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA). Airport officials said they were impressed by the interior conceptual drawings for the project, which have been done by Florida based firm RS&H Group.
“The interior design is very impressive and I am confident that once completed the new expanded airport will be a first-class terminal facility,” said the CIAA’s CEO Albert Anderson.
The multi-million dollar expansion project should take around three years to complete and will nearly triple the current space at the airport. Construction on the first phase of the project is expected to begin this summer.
Government has, however, come in for some criticism regarding the project over the lack of landing bridges, given the price tag. Speaking in the Legislative Assembly last week, Moses Kirkconnell defended the failure to include the covered bridges, indicating that the increase in costs would have made the project prohibitive and in customer related surveys the sky bridges were not identified as a priority by airport users.

How much is the 1100 ft runway that will start at end of existing runway cost? Will there be an EIA to let us know the impact of the damage to the North sound?
Why not renovate second floor ,place 2 escalators , 3 sky bridges , covered walkways and change roof to standing seam and finish project in 1 1/2 years and half the money?
