one frame ESO surveys(CNS Business): Starting on Monday 30 March, the Economics and Statistics Office (ESO) will conduct multiple surveys to measure the economic performance in the Cayman Islands. The annual surveys apply to all who produce goods and services in the area.

ESO officials explained the surveys collect data based on two different categories, the System of National Accounts (SNA) and Balance of Payments (BOP). Last year the SNA survey conducted showed that the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) amounted to $2.49 billion in 2013 after adjusting for price increases. In the same year the BOP survey showed the islands received a total of $1.53 million from abroad exports of services, such as tourism business and financial services, as well as goods.

Officials said the aim of this year’s surveys is to collect comparative information to assist the government and private sectors in their policy-making and planning, as well as provide an update on the economic performance on the country.

The 4,500 forms will be either mailed or hand-delivered to local businesses, government entities and non-profit organisations.

ESO officials stressed that all of the surveys collected will be kept confidential and are exempt from the Freedom of Information (FOI) law.

The deadline to complete the forms is 15 May.
