Cayman lawyers make IFC Power Women Top 200
(CNS Business): Two of Walkers’ Cayman Islands attorneys have been recognised by UK wealth management publication Citywealth in its 2014 IFC Power Women Top 200. Global managing partner Ingrid Pierce and senior counsel Monique Bhullar were both named in this exclusive list, which celebrates powerful women of achievement.
It highlights women who are opinion formers, helping to promote business excellence in their home jurisdiction and consolidating the reputations of the financial services industry globally. Walkers was the only Cayman Islands headquartered law firm with two awardees in the IFC Power Women Top 200, which was expanded this year from the previous Top 100 list.
“The popularity of the IFC Power Woman Top 100 list in 2013 encouraged us to bump it up a notch,” said Nimita Bhatt of Citywealth magazine. “This year we are honouring 200 of the most powerful women in government, private wealth, private client advisory and philanthropy across the international financial centres.”
Ingrid Pierce is the head of Walkers’ Cayman Islands Investment Funds Group and has over 20 years’ experience in advising fiduciaries and represents major institutions, fund managers, directors and trustees in all aspects of investment funds.
Pierce is highly ranked by all of the major legal directories. She featured among the Top Ten Offshore Lawyers globally in the 2014 International Who’s Who of Private Funds Lawyers and was named Investment Funds Lawyer of the Year – Cayman Islands, in the 2014 Acquisition International Fund Awards.
Citywealth magazine notes that Pierce “has a huge amount of experience and great judgment and is creative in the solutions that she comes up with”.
Monique Bhullar is no stranger to Citywealth’s leader lists, having featured previously in the 2013 IFC Power Women Top 100. Citywealth’s editorial states that “having worked for several years with a major trust company, she is able to see both sides, and reacts in a way that is proper from a legal point of view”.
As senior counsel in Walkers’ Global Trusts Group, Bhullar advises both private and institutional clients on all aspects of Cayman Islands trust law, as well as the creation of unit trusts as mutual funds and their ongoing regulatory compliance.
She has been with Walkers in the Cayman Islands since 2008 and previously worked in the trusts division of Citigroup Private Bank in Zurich.
“We are obviously delighted that both Ingrid and Monique have been recognised by such a respected publication and this accolade is testament to the contribution they have both made towards our firm and the wider financial services sector in Cayman,” said Antonia Hardy, managing partner of Walkers’ Cayman Islands office.
