(CNS): The Department of Commerce and Investment (DCI) said that is has begun issuing business licences electronically to improve the licensing process. Against the backdrop of growing complaints that the new regime, which has more checks and balances in the system, has become extremely bureaucratic, officials said this week that there were more improvements in the pipeline. Commerce Minister Wayne Panton said this was part of a series of improvements introduced since the new Trade and Business Licensing Law was enacted at the beginning of this year.

DCI Director Ryan Rajkumarsingh said the department was constantly seeking ways to improve the service and expedite the process. “There are more changes in store, which will benefit our clients, so keep an eye out for further announcements,” he added.

DCI began emailing both new and renewal licences at the beginning of this month. The licenses will be sent out within 30 days after applicants submit their documentation and owners can then print off their own licenses. Anyone without an email address however will still need to collect their certificates at the Business Licensing Counter at the Government Administration Building.
