CNS Business(CNS Business): Workshops on the new Trade and Business Licensing Law, the minimum wage and social media use are just some of the events taking place at the 2016 Small Business Expo next month at the University College of the Cayman Islands. Now in its fourth year, the event which was hosted by the Department of Commerce and Investment in the past is now being organised this year by the Cayman Islands Small Business Association (CISBA) and with support the Ministry of Commerce.

“CISBA President Dawn McLean-Sawney said the idea behind the expo is to increase the awareness of small and micro businesses; provide an opportunity for small business owners to network; and educate and motivate participants in the numerous workshops.

“We hope to celebrate the ingenuity of entrepreneurs and existing business owners. We have titled this year’s event ‘Synergy’ to acknowledge the collaboration within the local business community and the relationship between local businesses and government. By acknowledging entrepreneurial contributions in our community, we hope to inspire others to follow their dreams of owning their own businesses,” she said.

The ministry’s deputy chief officer, Tamara Ebanks, said the CISBA was an appropriate organizer for the expo. “As an interest group run by and created for small business owners, CISBA is an ideal partner to continue the expo — which accommodates the needs of small businesses in Cayman,” said said.

Event sponsors are being sought at the gold, silver and bronze levels. Among other benefits, the gold sponsor will receive a complimentary 10′ x 10′ booth and free advertising opportunities. Silver sponsors have an opportunity to present workshops and promote their businesses on radio programmes. Bronze sponsors have an opportunity to provide giveaways and take part in prize-drawing activities.

There will also be a cocktail reception that will provide networking opportunities at the event on 28 May.
