(CNS Business): Government is hoping that a new conference will help boost the country’s growing maritime business. The Cayman Islands Shipping Registry and industry partners, including Maples and Calder and Cayman Maritime Services Park from Cayman Enterprise City, have joined forces to create an annual event. It is hoped that Cayman Maritime Week will promote the jurisdiction globally and bring business to the islands.

Leveraging Cayman’s Shipping Registry and flag, organisers hope to attract international maritime industry leaders, ship owners, yacht managers, brokers and professionals from all areas of the maritime industry and showcase Cayman as a “growing maritime cluster”.

The agenda includes the MARE FORUM 4th Cayman Islands Shipping Summit, an event for the Cayman Islands Ship Owner’s Advisory Council (CISAC) and a full day conference hosted by Digital Ship, one the world’s leaders in shipping IT news and maritime event hosting. The Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) will be holding a business luncheon and co-hosting an event with the North American Marine Environment Protection Association.

“We are dedicated to promote the Cayman Islands as a growing maritime jurisdiction to industry leaders and professionals,” said Sherice Arman, Maples and Calder Attorney and President of the Cayman Islands chapter of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association. “Cayman Maritime Week will provide the perfect platform for conference attendees to learn more about Cayman as a maritime business hub and allow local companies to showcase their services.”

The conference which begins on 2 May at the Marriott Grand Cayman Beach Resort on Seven Mile Beach will cover maritime industry news, explore the latest technologies, innovations and trends, and include a number of forums. As well as an import boost to the shipping sector the conference organizers said it will also attract many overseas guests as the country moves into the slower tourism

season.
