McKeeva Bush, Leader of the Opposition

(CNS): The Chamber of Commerce has introduced an “opposition lunch” to provide McKeeva Bush, the leader of the opposition, a chance to address its members to present his views on national topics identified by the council as important to the membership and the wider community. Although the non-profit organization that represents local businesses has hosted an annual lunch every October for many years giving the country’s leaders a chance to talk about their achievements and plans, this is the first time that an opposition leader has been asked to deliver a presentation.

The Chamber said Bush’s presentation would “provide the membership with a differing perspective on issues facing our Islands”.

Taking place at the Westin on Wednesday 2 December at noon, Bush will be talking about unemployment, immigration, labour and government reform through the Project Future initiative, infrastructure projects (airport, cruise berthing, George Town revitalization and road development) and economic growth. In the same vein to the government lunch, there will be a membership question and answer period at the close of the presentation if time allows, the Chamber said.

As government leader during the last UDP administration Bush gained a reputation for making major and unexpected announcements on occasions such as the Chamber lunch and the annual CBO conference, creating anticipation around the events.

The current premier, Alden McLaughlin, has been a little more circumspect about grandiose proclamations and has made more predictable speeches on such occasions. However, at the government Chamber conference last month he did announce Cabinet’s intention to approve moving the port project onto the next stage. This was before the Cabinet had met to give the formal agreement to the controversial project.

Decent people doing decent things is all we need. Decent politicians being decent to the people, decent press being decent by telling the truth, decent police upholding the law and decent folk being kind to one another. What more do we need?

Now the Chamber has stooped to the demands of Mac, a one council member said recently they see as the only Magnificently Real “Business Friendly” Caymanian Politician.

The more Mac shafts the Cayman Islands, the more the power brokers pander to him to get the rewards they always receive.

XXXXXX – exposed for those who have eyes to see.

The Chamber has become a nest of power brokers.

I will attend, just to see who attends!

Is he going to discuss gambling out the country’s money and suing our pemier with false documents and recovering millions from Ryan and his church and being stopped from signing a contract to build our port?
