Caribbean utilities Company

(CNS Business): A legal battle has begun as Caribbean Utilities Company Ltd (CUC) seeks a restraining order against two local cable providers in the Cayman Islands. According to papers filed with the Grand Court, CUC officials claim both Logic and C3 used CUC’s utility poles to hang cable lines without permission. CUC filed two writs last week through local law firm Appleby to stop WestTel, Logic’s parent company, and Infinity Broadband, which operates as C3, restraining the companies from attaching anything to the poles.

CUC argues in the document: “The attachments are made many feet above ground. In order to attach, the poles have to be mounted by an engineer and the attachment are fixed either by attaching into or onto the poles.” The court document also said: “The process of mounting and attaching are a trespass to the Plaintiff’s poles.”

CNS Business has reached out to both CUC and Logic representatives. We received no reply or comment before press time.

The court document revealed that CUC fears that the attachments will continue unless restrained by a court order.

Really? No, seriously, really? Is this what they waste their money on (and presumably pass on to customers)? They are really getting into a legal battle because telecoms providers are tacking their lines onto existing CUC poles? I tell you what then, lets stop the harrassment and trespass of these poor poles. Let’s make every single utilities provider put up its own poles and use them exclusively, so every street in Cayman will be littered with poles just to accommodate this madness?
