(CNS Business): Future sommeliers or people interested in the hospitality industry will soon be able to take part in a wine training programme offered by the National Workforce Development Agency to learn all about the art of wine. The NWDA has partnered with Wine School 3 to offer several scholarships to NWDA members to help complete their Wine Service 101 and 102 course offered by the wine school.

Wine Service (WS101) in an introduction class that teaches students about the service industry and introduces them to all different types of wine, as well as champagne, beer and spirits. The Wine Service 102 (WS102) will give participants a more in-depth look at wine service, how to sell and upsell wine, in addition to learning the differences between various wines and the reasons for different glasses. The courses will be led by certified trainers of Wine Spirit Education Trust (WSET), an internationally recognised institution based in London, UK.

“It is important that we continue to build our public/private partnerships in order to ensure access to these recognised training and the development programmes for Caymanians seeking to advance in the food and beverage industry,” said Dianne Conolly, NWDA Manager Training and Development. “The NWDA is pleased that those who participated are not only able to earn a certificate for the courses taken but also that the skills learned are readily transferable into the workforce.”

Officials stated during the upcoming months additional NWDA registrants will be able to access this and other specialised training. The opportunity is only available to those registered with NWDA.

Training will be held at Wine School 3, located at Mirco Centre, Grand Cayman.
