Fresh start for DREAM Nightclub

(CNS Business): The former DREAM Nightclub wants to erase the negative stigma that surrounds this establishment by changing its name to Club SMB. Located on Seven Mile Beach beside Peppers Smokehouse, the club will now operate under new management and plans to make their big debut on Friday 5 June with a launch party. Club SMB owner, Omar Chambers, told CNS Business it’s time for something new and fresh to attract a new crowd of club patrons. However, it’s the history of the former nightclub that the new club is trying to escape.

In September 2009, West Bay resident Carlo Webster was shot dead on the dance floor of what was then known as the Next Level nightclub in a gang-related killing. There has been a long list of violent assaults and incidents reported at the premises since that day, as well as various drug busts around the location.

The club has changed hands numerous times since but has failed to shake off the crime association, and in August last year a club bouncer was injured and five other people were stabbed during a huge parking lot brawl that spilled out from the club.

DREAM Nightclub is now Club SMB

Chambers said that, due to not enough business, DREAM Nightclub closed its doors about a month ago. Brand Manager Cedric Gidarisingh told CNS Business with the new name and the help of Epic Day Entertainment to kick off the launch this weekend, they hope create a different kind of energy with a friendly environment for customers.

“Even though it says Club SMB, we don’t want to suggest it’s just a nightclub; we want it to suggest nightlife. When people hear nightclub, they think it’s just music, dancing, DJ’s, etc. But we want you to experience a nightlife where it’s more like a lounge, where the dress code is appropriate,” Gidarisingh said. “We are catering to young professionals and older folks. It’s not limited to one demographic.”

He explained that club goers will now have to abide by a certain dress code, such as no hats, baggy pants or hoods, or they will be denied entry. Also, instead hard-core rap music, Club SMB is changing its music lineup and will have a DJ that plays electronic dance music. The changes are geared towards keeping out undesirable clients.

“We want people to dress appropriately. We don’t want anyone to just walk off the streets and think we’re open to just any dress code,” Gidarisingh explained. “Seven Mile Beach to the world is known for its luxury feel, and you know when you come to the Cayman Islands you don’t want to leave — and that’s what Club SMB is going to be.”
