(CNS Business): The revitalization of George Town has been a topic of conversation for several years. In March, Cayman Island’s Government leaders stressed how critical the update was at the RICS Property Conference. Now, government officials are taking the proposed idea to the next level by unveiling the proposed plans at a Chamber of Commerce membership luncheon this month.

On Thursday 30 April, Minister Kurt Tibbetts will present the new layout and members will be able to review the plans and asks questions following the presentation.

At the 2015 RICS Conference Premier Alden McLaughlin stated in his opening remarks, “This is not a time for short-term thinking. We want to breathe new life into downtown, making it an attractive place to live and play after 5:00.”

Government officials tell CNS Business several road expansion projects are already in the works for this year, and are about to break ground. However, to make this revitalization process happen sustainably, government and the private sector stressed the need for partnership.

Chamber of Commerce CEO Will Pineau told CNS Business at the RICS Conference, in order to pave the way for George Town to thrive, he stressed partnership is essential.

“The reality is, the public and private sector have to be in sync for this because neither of them can do it independently,” Pineau explained.

The presentation of George Town’s new layout will be held at the Wharf Restaurant. CNS Business plans on attending the event and bringing you the latest details.
