(CNS): Registration for the annual Government Professional Development Week, which will take place in November, is now open, officials have stated. The special conference organized by the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants (CIPSA) is open to both public and private sector financial management professionals and covers the latest developments in managing public sector resources and best practice.

During the week there will be a session dedicated to government’s response to the EY report. Other sessions include ethical decision-making, implementing risk management, managing information technology security risks as well as HR issues.

Premier Alden McLaughlin, Deputy Governor Franz Manderson and Finance Minister Marco Archer are among the list of presenters. Also on the roster are Financial Secretary Kenneth Jefferson, Auditor General Alastair Swarbrick and Complaints Commissioner Nicola Williams. A visiting former senior Canadian civil servant is also expected to outline that government’s experience with managing for results.

Archer, who is chair of the event, said this year’s theme, ‘Managing for Results’, aligns with the priority of all managers across the government to deliver quality services efficiently and cost-effectively.

“By rethinking how we do our jobs and continually pushing the limits to develop innovative methods to do our tasks better, we can provide our country with improved services and better outcomes. There are challenges ahead, but it’s a very exciting time,” he added.

As well as the topics covered, organisers said finance professionals will be able to network within their field. The conference takes place 11-14 November at the Marriott Beach Resort. The registration fee is $100 a day. The Civil Service College has sponsored 120 days of attendance by civil servants.
