Converting cast-offs into school supplies

(CNS Business): The fourth annual DMS Gives Back Garage Sale raised just over CI$1,000 for the Business Professional Women’s Association to purchase school supplies for needy children in our community. This year’s event, which  took place on Saturday 9 August, was supported by DMS Broadcasting who donated air time to promote the event and by Lions Centre who generously provided the venue.

There were 22 vendors who woke in the early hours of the morning to sell their cast-offs and support a great cause. The Lion’s Club also held a breakfast that morning to raise funds for the club’s communityinitiatives. Shopper’s spirits were high as there was good music, great food and a plethora of goods for
purchase at great prices.

“We have found that there are a number of people in our community who look forward to this annual event and it is an important part of our efforts to give back to the community,” said Heather Halsey, who leads the DMS Gives Back committee. “We have a number of staff who are a part of the Business Professional Women’s Association and are busily packing school bags for this initiative as well. DMS focuses its charitable efforts primarily in education and Cayman’s youth and this raising money for school supplies was a great fit for us in order to prepare our youth with the right tools for a successful new school year ahead.”
