(CNSBusiness): A specialist in labour practices is visiting the Cayman Islands next week and will be hosting a presentation at the Chamber of Commerce on a minimum wage. Anne Knowles, the Senior Specialist, Employers’ Activities, Caribbean Office, International Labour Organisation has extensive experience and knowledge in labour matters throughout the region and globally. The Progressive government campaigned on introducing a minimum wage locally “as a priority” but the employment minister announced earlier this year that she wanted to undertake more research before implementing a national basic rate below which on one should be expected to work.

As the committee established by the minister to review the minimum wage proposal continues its work, the Chamber said Knowels will share information about minimum wage practices around the region and beyond including lessons that the public and private sectors may wish to consider during the current review and consultation period.

The Be Informed presentation, which is open to the public, will take place at 3pm on 23 July at the Chamber’s conference centre in Governor’s Square, off the West Bay Road.
