(CNS Business): Leading offshore firm, Appleby, announced today the success of its inaugural charity day, handing out cheques to a large number of well-known local charities.

Following a week’s advertising campaign, local charities seeking sponsorship were invited to present to the firm’s charity committee made up of a cross-sector of staff, including partners. 24 applications were received, from which 18 were short-listed and 10 selected.

Bryan Hunter, Managing Partner, Cayman said “Charities, schools and not-for-profit organisations make a hugely valuable contribution to society. Appleby have historically supported their work through staff and corporate sponsorship but we wanted to take a fresh look at the support we provide with a view to adding value and broadening the support to a greater number of good causes.”

All Appleby staff were asked to provide feedback on the sectors they wanted to focus on for 2014. The three chosen were educational programmes, child and family welfare and animal welfare. The charities selected were Cayman HospiceCare, Meals on Wheels, the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre, the Cayman Islands Red Cross, Literacy is for Everyone, the Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s Mind’s Eye tours for school-aged children, Cayman Youth Inclusive Programmes, Cayman Youth Anti-Crime Trust, Canine Friends and the Cayman Islands Humane Society.

“We were delighted with the response we received and the number of applications was overwhelming,” commented Nasaria Budal, Business Development and Marketing Executive, Appleby and organiser of the Appleby Cayman Charity Day. “It was certainly a reflection of just how much support like ours is needed. We are confident that with our staff having been directly involved in the selection process they will add further value by sharing their time and expertise as volunteers and by supporting and contributing to additional fundraising efforts throughout the year.”
