(CNS Business): Both Rubis and Esso will be supplying Grand Cayman’s monopoly power supplier with its diesel for the next five years, Caribbean Utilities Company (CUC) announced Thursday. CUC has entered into a five-year primary diesel fuel supply contract with Rubis Cayman Islands Limited and a five-year secondary supply contract with ESSO Cayman Ltd following completion of a competitive tender process. Rubis will be supplying 60% of the diesel as the primary supplier required to operate the firm’s North Sound Plant. The award of the contracts was approved by the Electricity Regulatory Authority. CUC is still the exclusive power provider for Grand Cayman under a licence which expires in 2009 but the ERA is currently assessing a competitive bid from suppliers, including CUC, to generate 36 megawatts (MW) of power in the future.
