Morritt’s timeshare resort, Grand Cayman

(CNS Business): The owners of the Morritt’s timeshare resort in East End have taken legal action against one of its former owners for posts she made on Facebook about the resort following a dispute. Patricia Crockett, a resident of East End, is said to have posted comments on the resort’s Facebook page making allegations against the resort about its upkeep and the misuse of fees. The resort claims the comments are untrue, defamatory and damaging.

The comments made some serious allegations against the resort and the owners claim that their reputation has been damaged by the social media posts, which were read by people around the world and they have lost business as a result.

The resort is seeking unspecified damages for libel and malicious falsehood, including aggravated damages and an injunction restraining Crockett and her supporters from publishing any more defamatory comments. According to the documents filed in the Cayman Islands Grand Court, the comments and accusations started being posted on the members’ Facebook page by Crocket in October last year and have continued up to date.

This is not the first time that parties in the Cayman Islands have attempted to take legal action to prevent derogatory or unfavourable comments regarding social media posts but so far no cases have made it to trial in the local civil courts.

I’m done with the place. If you can’t complain without being sued then I won’t go there and I won’t have anything to complain about.
