(CNS Business): Organisers of a property and construction conference schedule to take place in Grand Cayman in March next year said the theme for the industry gathering is inspired by the Cayman government’s plans to prioritize a number of major infrastructure projects.

Some 200 delegates are expected at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) event “Building Sustainable Communities”, which is the second RICS conference to be held in the Cayman Islands. The conference will focus on best practices to ensure that all projects, especially the revitalization of George Town, are planned and implemented effectively to enhance community development and quality of life on the island.

Nigel Bates, Chairman of the RICS Cayman Chapter, said the conference presents an opportunity for all property professionals, owners, occupiers and developers to get together and discuss and debate very topical and important issues.

“It is good to see that the RICS is leading the way in bringing all of these parties together. It will be a very interesting day for all attendees, sponsors and speakers,” he added.

The keynote address will be delivered by Louise Brooke-Smith, the current RICS President. Smith is the managing director of Brooke Smith Planning, a long-established planning and development consultancy based in UK. The practice offers professional advice on town planning, land use and development matters to public and private sector clients, across the country.

Neil Shah, managing director of RICS Americas, said the conference was expected to attract leading professionals in the market.

“The focus will be on sustainable development as well as standards in valuation, construction and property management. It is important to note that the Cayman Islands chapter has been a leader in furthering the cause for more transparency, higher standards and professionalism in the property sector,” he said.

Organisers also stated in a release that the afternoon would provide an opportunity for smaller groups to cover specific subjects, including the proposal to adopt e-conveyancing in property transactions, current practices and trends in valuation including valuing foreclosed properties, the Cayman Construction Contract and the proposed Building Registration Law, strata management and owner delinquencies and handling insurance claims.

Registration is now open for the conference set for 5 March 2015 at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort. For details, go to www.ricscaymanconference.eventbrite.com.
